Ernie Davis is a hero never to be forgotten. He was an individual that impacted many people through his actions and abilities. This website includes pictures, videos and a quiz to encourage us to learn even more about a true mentor. He is a person to live by and definitely someone to look up to. Some interesting facts about Ernie include:
-Ernie moved in with his grandparents at a young age
-He learned a great deal from them as they already had 12 children
-He played tackle on his small fry football team because he didn't have the required weight to be a running back
-As a freshman, Ernie broke his wrist on the jv team and missed the season
-Over 30 colleges looked at Davis before he chose Syracuse
-Davis was always respectful, never playing for the glory of a crowd or to embarrass other players-While attending Syracuse, Ernie was a member of the Sigma Alpha Mu Fraternity
-Davis was roughly 6 ft 2 in and 212 lbs
-He was MVP of both the Liberty and Cotton Bowl
-He was inducted into the College Hall Of Fame in 1979
-He was drafted in 1962, the first African American to be picked 1st in the draft
-Even though he never played a game in the NFL, his jersey is retired as he is never forgotten
-Ernie Davis is buried in Woodlawn Cemetery in Elmira, New York
